Yes, it probably was unprofessional for which I apologise. It was an offhand remark made after a few beers on a Saturday. So probably not the best time to be posting.
I might point out that the individuals who made him go on camera and tell everyone it was going to be fine when they had no intention of it being so were also being unprofessional.
