we run both! deadline for redshift (at the time we bought our 8 card box, i believe it was the only solution for multi gpu management in one chasis)
and RR for arnold (if we ever bother with it) and mental ray (still using that toon shader!!!) deadline pros: easy setup can split multiple gpus to different jobs (we have an 8 card rack machine that can act as 4 nodes of 2, 2 nodes of 4, or one node of 8 cards) it's cheap now that amazon have bought it cons: maya/redshift/'pass' support is dire (we've had jobs arbitrarily render some passes and not others, different between submissions of the SAME job!) no render previews time to finish guess-timates are WAY off again with maya we have had jobs look like they have hung on the first set of chunks, but in the background are actually rendering the whole job UI font is HORRIFIC!!!! especially when reading log files for errors... makes my eyes bleed!
