Lawmakers in the United States on Thursday voted to cut aid to any
country that hosts Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir.

Members of the appropriations committee in the US house of congress
agreed that Bashir, who is wanted by the International Criminal Court
(ICC), must be isolated.

The provision was proposed by Republican senator Frank Wolf who
declared that international isolation of Bashir would lead to his
downfall.

"No one should allow this guy in - this is a moral issue, " declared Wolf.

Some congress members are however concerned that the provision, if
signed into law, could have a negative impact on strategic allies of
the United States that have hosted the Sudanese President since the
ICC warrant was issued in March 2009.

In the last year and a half Bashir has visited Ethiopia, China, Egypt,
Chad, Malawi, Qatar, Iraq, Libya and Saudi Arabia.

"My colleague's ammendment would cut off U.S funding to all these
countries, some of them strategic allies," had it already been in
effect when the visits were made, said Democratic Representative Nita
Lowey.

The provision is not yet law but is likely to get approval from the
rest of congress before it is passed to President Barrack Obama for
signing into law.
