GUINEA WORM INFECTIONS RISE IN EASTERN EQUATORIA Friday, 17 May 2013 14:54 | Guinea worm infections registered 43 cases within a period of one month in Eastern Equatoria.
State health minister Margaret Itto told Radio Emmanuel on Thursday that the 43 infection cases were recorded in Kapoeta East County. She said Kapoeta East County has been identified as the area with the highest guinea worm infections in South Sudan. Dr Itto explained that this increase set the country on the lead in the world record. She said only eight cases were detected from January to April 9 and 19 cases were reported ten days later, but the figures have increased in the last one month. Dr. Itto said contaminated water sources provide breeding grounds for the guinea worm especially during rainy season. The minister downplayed fears of an outbreak of the disease saying more cases were recorded in South Sudan during such months compared to the previous years. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "South Sudan Info - The Kob" group.
