I think the key attributes of the new SpamAssassin logo (in addition to it just being a good design) that differentiated that submission from the others:
- a novel link with Apache Software Foundation (the core brand) - the concept of filtering out spam or classifying email - uniqueness (no cliche design elements) I think it's a bit more than a feather reference. There were several other logos that included feathers and none ranked very high. The other thing I should probably mention is rendering of the SpamAssassin name. We always write it as a single word with the "S" and the "A" capitalized: "SpamAssassin". However, some of the logos I liked deviated a bit from that, separating "Spam" from "Assassin" or going all lower-case. This is a minor quibble, but we probably want the logo to be consistent with everything else in that respect. Also, please don't feel too constrained by your original submissions. Go crazy if you want to change something. If you have another great idea, we'd be nuts to ignore it. Daniel -- Daniel Quinlan http://www.pathname.com/~quinlan/
