Hello,
I am a new user of the Redhat Linux 6.0 on a Sparc Station 10. Until now I
used the German SuSE Linux distribution on Intel architectures quiet
successfull. I downloaded the RedHat distribution from the ftp server and
installed it for the first time.
In Germany I did not found any books on RedHat concerning Sparc systems.
Since Redhat differs somewhat from the SuSE (Intel) distribution and I now
have a Sun workstation I have a couple of questions. I would appreciate
help and suggestions. I have no documentation on the hardware.
1. (very funny (or stupid) question)
I use a German keyboard (Sun Model 5c) and up to now it is not possible to
get the vertical dash ( | ) (for pipeing commands). It is located on the
same key as the <>| on the left lower part but there must be either a
combination of this key with another special key and I do not know which
one since I tried Strg, Shift, Alt, Alt-Graph, Compose and the Diamond-keys
left and right from the space bar. Or maybe the key mapping in Linux is not
correct and therfore it does not work.
Where can I find the key mapping and how do I have to change it?

Is there any easy use of the special keys on the left side from the main
block or do I have to adapt the key mapping to use them? (In German these
keys are called for example: "Foreground", Background", "Attributes",
"Insert", "Open", "Copy", "Help" and so on.
3.
I use the KDE user interface instead of Gnome since there exist much more
German KDE applications and in Germany the KDE is used much more often. I
do not know if KDE 1.1pre on Sparc is the reason for the often crashes of
the window manager but at about one time in an hour the WM is crashing and
reseting to the login window. On Intel architectures KDE 1.1 is very stable.
Is it KDE which makes trouble or ar there any known bugs concerning the Sun
hardware?
4a. (For German people, e.g. Universities)
Is there anyone who has cheap spare parts (could be used and old ones) for
Sun SPARCstation 10 especially RAM or a faster CPU?
4b. (For German people)
Is there someone who could send me a documentation (copy) or via electronic
distribution (PDF, HTML etc) for the Sun SPARCstation 10?
