For running the system, almost any good book on the RedHat distribution
should do, since there are not so many differences in systems
administration between intel and sparc (if you leave out the openPROM of
the sparc).

Just like on PC keyboards, there's also one "AltGr"-Key on these 
Sun-Keyboards. (at the lower right, if I remember corectly). If it doesn't
produce the wanted character, check the keyboard mapping with xev, and
possibly try xmodmap (as I did) or try adjusting the keyboard mapping in
one of the files in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xkb - might get hairy, though.

I think you would have to adapt the keyboard mapping.

Nope, it's definitely lacking upgrades. RedHat published a set of updates
for the Sparc architecture. Install these and most of the crashes of X
will be gone.
