hi all:
i just purchased red hat linux 6 for a sparc station 10. i purchased
the product from red hat over debian or caldera or suse becaasue i thought
there would be credible help desk support at the red hat end. boy
was i wrong.
my problem which i am looking for some advice on, since red hat has not
gotten a solution to me, is after i execute a "BOOT CDROM" and run SILO
and go thru the whole install sequence completely without any problems
is that on restart i try a "BOOT DISK" and i recieve "ILLEGAL INSTRUCTION".
after spending more than a day trying out various combinations of
disk partiitions i am still looking for help from anyone who has succesfully
installed linux from redhat for guidance.
the machine is a sparcstation 10 with 128 meg of ram, it has the internal
1 gig drive and a external 2.8gig drive that is scsi address 3 or "the boot
disk"
destination and a cdrom.
i have gone to the trouble of running "fdisk s" on the install before using
disk druid, to ensure there are three partitions and it still doesnt change.
alternatively is there anyway i can by pass the boot loader problem?
or can i used the SILO loader off the cdrom to jump to a hard disk image?

i would warn anyone trying to install red hat linux on a sparc to think
twice
about using redhat.
