I certainly don't want to affect my unreachable SNMP devices. I have played with the Event editor a little. I think what you are saying can be done with an event rule. I'll make 2 copies of the "Unreachable" event, set one to Critical and the other to Minor. Then edit the original event, turn off the alarm, and add two rules: if the model type is pingable, run the minor event, if the model type is not pingable, run the critical event.
