No, only the Sparc version is supported.

Yes, a SSDB save (save file) can be used to automatically import the SSDB 
during the install. See the installation docs, about upgrading to another host. 
You can use the same method to migrate the DDM when moving between hosts.

Could be, benefitting from the OS increased network performance, but should be 
unnoticeable.

I think you need root access.
