Karen:

There is a lot of information needed in order to help you, but I can't
think of any 1'-9" deep floor joist construction what wouldn't require
sprinklers with the following exceptions:

1. qualifies for a NFPA 13R design
2. space is filled entirely with noncombustible insulation.

8.14.1.2.1 relates to noncombustible or limited combustible
construction, which typically does not include wood floor joists.

Subject: Floor Joist question

I have a situation where the building has a 1'9" wood floor joist
construction and I am being asked if it needs to be sprinkled. If so
what
type and how many heads. I say that by 8.14.1.2.1 that it does not or
may
not need to be sprinkled but I just don't know. Any help would be great.
