The State of Illinois requires ALL contractors
(plumbing and fire) performing fire sprinkler work to
be licensed and to have a NICET Level III individual
on their staff. If a company has multiple locations,
each location must have such a person employed.

However, there are no present requirements for
licensing on the inspections and testing of such
systems, BUT this will be proposed in the near future
for this to be instituted. The current scuttlebutt on
this is that when the legislation does pass, it will
not be enough to simply have a NICET Level III
sprinkler layout person on staff. It would be
proposed that the actual individual performing the
inspections and testing would have to hold a minimum
NICET Level II certification in the Inspection and
Testing subfield.
