Todd,

You will have to judge whether this would be analogous, but I would look into FM Data sheet 2-2 Installation Rules For Suppression Mode Automatic Sprinklers, and see if one of their design schemes for Mezzanines, Walkways, or Conveyors might make some sense in your application.

Subject: protecting ESFR

I'm working on a project in an ESFR warehouse where additional sprinklers need to be provided beneath a duct. The duct is about 8-9 feet off the floor in the 20 ft warehouse. My plan is to install 3 ESFR sprinklers below the duct. The question I have is about protection of the sprinkler and obstructions. I'm assuming that installing a sprinkler guard per 6.2.8 (2002) in not allowed. What other options are out there? This space is occupied by some palletized storage and forklift parking, so damage is a possibility. My original thought was upright ESFRs on sprigs, but that may not work in this case. Thoughts?
