Forum: Some will remember a pipe/fitting system called Poz-Lok that came and went pretty quickly in the 90's. It was ultra-thinwall tube that was held together by socket-style fittings that were secured with lock washers that actually bit into the surface of the pipe when they were made home. Turns out that the manufacturer didn't properly finish the continuous weld along the pipe seam, and also that the material had inadequate corrosion resistance and was highly MIC-sensitive. Except for all that it was pretty cool, I guess.
There was a class-action suit filed in 1999 that has finally settled. I worked on this matter for about 18 months as a technical consultant but haven't stayed in touch with the litigation however, my wife and I visited with plaintiff's lead attorney who was in SoCal for the weekend. He brought us up to speed on the terms of settlement and there's a web-site for property owners in order to make a claim. There is a multi-million $$ fund for R&R; value of each claim will ultimately ride on the degree of difficulty, with an open warehouses being less than a boutique hotel with textured hard lid ceilings. If you are aware of any buildings fitted with Poz-Lok, even partial installations, or can forward this information on to organizations that can publish it, please do. Fire protection associations, fire official associations, building owner groups, etc., etc. The website address is: www.poz-lok.com Steve Leyton PROTECTION DESIGN & CONSULTING PLEASE NOTE: PD&C will be moving effective 8-27-07. Our new address is: 8849-B Complex Drive San Diego, CA 92123 (Phone & fax remain the same) _______________________________________________ Sprinklerforum mailing list [email protected] http://lists.firesprinkler.org/mailman/listinfo/sprinklerforum To Unsubscribe, send an email to:[EMAIL PROTECTED] (Put the word unsubscribe in the subject field)
