Cliff, I'm not aware of anything in 13 that requires the check valve. Also
worth noting, nothing in 13 requires that each floor has its own control
valve (except for high rises, I think). I tried to find the section that
requires the control valves in high rises but couldn't. Anyone know if it's
been removed, or am I just missing it?

Subject: Check valve on floor control assembly

NFPA 14 requires a check valve on a floor control assembly for a
connection
to a standpipe that is part of a combined system. (6.3.5.1 2007 ed)
Does
this requirement cross over to NFPA 13 for a riser in a multi-story
building
that is not actually a standpipe? Like for a 3-story bldg that isn't
high
enough to require a standpipe.

I understand that it would be a good idea for the same reasons it is
required on a standpipe but is it actually a requirement?
