As we've spoken many time you know that in Colorado we require underground contractors that install fire mains, or combo mains that supply fire hydrants or fire suppression systems to be "Registered". Currently there are about 125 registered, but I'll bet there are more than that many "Water, Sewer, and Excavation" listings in the Denver metro area alone. All I can say is it's a process, and 125 is much better that the first year it was required when we had 8.
Are many intentionally playing Dumb? Yeah! Is it costing us and the owners? Yeah! Is asking for a U cert. like asking to date their baby sister? Maybe worse! And if you feel like the owner wants you to take care of it for him "As part of being the "Expert", and doesn't want to hear about how much it's going to cost? Well I hear it all the time, and I wish NFPA would address it with more seminar's aimed at the excavators owners and developers. Doesn't do a whole lot of good for them to send us seminar notices, and miss sending them to the people that need the educating. Thom McMahon, SET Firetech, Inc. 2560 Copper Ridge Dr P.O. Do you bother getting a U Certificate to attach to you're a Certificate? If you're an AHJ on this Forum, do you enforce and witness flushing and testing of the underground on a regular basis? Either the site guys are playing dumb, or no other sprinkler guy or inspector has explained the requirements to them. Since they don't have the equipment to perform a proper flush, its obvious to us that there must be a host of UG installations that have all the original stones in the UG. Does this bother any of you? I don't feel warm and fuzzy about it.
