I hate to further complicate an already-complicated situation, but why
not take the pump rating down to where you don't need the PRV? Are you
confident that this valve will receive the regular inspections AND
TESTING required to assure its functionality when called upon? And
don't forget that the available listed reducing valves are all rated at
165 PSI max., not 175.

Additionally, if a pumper hits an FDC at 150 PSI and you have 165-175
already on the system, it's going to have little initial effect except
to confuse the fire department. This one will need a sign telling the
FD to pump at 175, but you'll be exposing everything downstream to
pressure packing, including the building systems (all equipped with
relief valves, right?) I dunno - I think FDC's on the sprinkler
laterals are a better idea unless they specifically view the loop as a
standpipe system. In which case I would dial that pump down ...

We have a pressure reducing valve down stream from the fire pump so it
is basically a flat 175PSI curve.
The fire truck will draw from the same 12" supply.

What are the system pressures from the fire pump churn and rated psi?
Will the fire truck draw from the same 12" water supply?
The fire pump may shut down if the pumper provides adequate pressure.
Fore severe demand use the UL fire pump may exceed the truck's ability
to maintain flow and pressure.

Subject: UG FIRE LOOP - pumper connection

I have a job which has a 2000GPM fire pump supplied by a 12" city main.
The pump in turn feeds a 10" UG fire loop that runs around the building.
The FDC connection is located away from the building and connects to the
10" fire loop. A fire hydrant supplied from the municipal water supply
is located next to the FDC. So the pumper truck will hook up to the
municipal hydrant and pump into the FDC for the UG loop. Do you see any
potential problems with a pumper truck, rated for 1700 GPM, pumping into
a fire loop supplied by a 2000GPM fire pump?
Thanks,
Dewayne
