The bill in ND is being introduced by two representatives from Grand Forks and one other. The rumor is that their husbands are contractors. The Grand Forks Fire Marshals office is very concerned that this bill will pass. However the wording is such that the cities will have the last word. We are helping in a effort to defeat this bill by supplying information as to cost and benefits of sprinklers systems in homes. This effort is being lead by the Fire Marshals themselves. I wish there was a way to stop Hollywood from constantly setting off deluge systems as if the are standard sprinkler system. I have had to explain this so many times. Once again the sheep follow.

I have copies of the proposed legislation mentioned in Arizona and North Dakota. If you would like a copy, email me and I am happy to send. We are closely monitoring what is happening in Sacramento and if legislation is presented here in CA, we will know about it and be prepared to fight. Terri Leyton PD&C San Diego -------- Attention fire marshals: It has come to our attention that homebuilders are beginning a move to prevent local adoption of the 2009 IRC provisions for residential fire sprinklers by introducing state legislation that would block new local adoptions of residential fire sprinkler requirements. Such a bill was recently filed in Arizona (HB2267), and I have been told that one has been filed in North Dakota (although I haven't seen a copy of this one). At a national level, we are moving to coordinate the resources of several fire sprinkler advocacy organizations to identify and respond to this type of legislation, but it will also be helpful to have state and local groups be on the lookout for this type of activity. If your state fire service organization utilizes the services of a legislative monitor or lobbyist, please alert them to be on the lookout for anti-residential sprinkler legislation, and if you come across something, please let me know.
