Pretty ez demo's:
Centre Region Code had about 6 guys there from State College, PA- at the
forefront of sprinkler codes up there, protecting the Nittany Lions.
Another 20+/- FF/Code guys in suits and dress blues;
Regional guy from NFPA and Roland Hall from ICC.
Thom McMahon and I were the only sprinkler contractors, I believe Thom gets
the long distance award;
About 6 UA reps,Pgh 542, 669, and Phila 692 (Thx for lunch)
Ray Lonabough from NFSA
On our side.
The Home Builders had themselves, including one that is a rural fire chief
and testified that his dept's 20 minute response time would mean a lot of
water damage while the sprinklers flowed 20 minutes till they got there
(versus letting the house burn down? Great testimony, we used it to our
advantage), an economist that said only 15 people dies in PA fires in a year
(whereas Phila Dep Chief testified 47 dies in his city alone); I'd guess
there were about 30 on the NAHB/PBA side, also Modular Home Assoc rep.

Firefighter safety likely carried the day since it was obvious the
homeowners either don't know, don't care, or believe the Terminator movie
deluge syndrome.

George,

What was the audience demographic? Sprinkler contractors, fire
fighters, home builders, plumbing/mechanical contractors, etc. If the
plumbing/mechanical side was there, did they take a position on the
issue?

In other parts of the country where this is occurring, who is carrying
the water for the pro-sprinkler position?

Just got home from witnessing the PA Uniform Construction Code Advisory
Panel vote to NOT OMIT the residential sprinkler requirement for SFD and
townhouses.

If we can do it in a Commonwealth, you guys can do it in the "state"s.

Amazing. In my lifetime.
