Yes I think you understand the area and it is an egress hallway. All of this
is in the lower level or mechanical area of an airport.

So you basically have a hallway with a wall on one side and a fence on the
other side and the hallway is the wet system and the other side of the fence
is the preaction area correct?

Is the hallway and egress path?

Is this an industrial type building or what is its use?

It is smoke detection activated and the other area is basically a hallway.
The other questions I can't answer. I will look into these things but I
mainly need to know can you mix systems in an area?

And the fence will stop it from getting wet from either the water spray from
the adjacent sprinklers or from water on the floor?

Is the electrical gear dry, i.e. no oil filled transformers?

If he's wanting pre-action we'll assume smoke detection for activation. How
will you keep smoke from the other side of the fence from migrating into the
electrical area?

Plus, there may be some building code issues here when it comes to
separation of the two areas. What is the area adjacent to the electrical
area used for?

The reason for the different system is that behind the fence is a switch
gear (electric) and the owner does not want the chance that it will get wet.

Why is one side wet and the other pre-action? If there is that much of a
clash of occupancies, a chain link fence may not be an adequate separation.
