The thing to keep in mind with shell buildings used for mercantile is that
while protecting this tenant space with an OH2 criteria, you have no idea what
may in that space a year from now. So if you design based on it feeling like
more of a light haz. occupancy and down the road a Dollar Store takes over that
space or some boutique shop, it's going to be a tough sell to the owner when
you or someone who'll use your name in vain tries to explain why he has to redo
the sprinkler system based on a new tenant. Best to treat the whole building
alike based on its intended use.

I know it is mercantile by definition. It's just hard to believe that it needs
a .2 density 130 spacing when the room has nothing more then a few stools,
sinks, and misc can of hair spray. My office has more combustibles then that.
What sucks is that the layout has individual rooms VS large open area and I
can't apply small room rule. Head count in this space is insane.
Good thing that cost is being forwarded to the owner.

Most all of the current/future tenants will probably be Mercantile, unless an
office or something comes up.

Be careful of tenant areas in large buildings. You start renovating walls
/locations etc.., you could end up with a covered mall situation.

keith def of ; Mercantile = trade or merchants, I believe a beauty/hair salon
fulfills that criteria.
