I am going to have to jump on that bandwagon. Had a highrise in ND yes that is
North Dakota. ME that had been retired for years comes out to save the day and
designs the system for the architect. Nightmare upon nightmare. Posted all the
problems on the forum and Steve responded with a lengthy post that really
helped. I learned several things and used the info as ammunition to "do it
right". After a battle and several forum responses we won, did it right and for
less cost than what was specified. Hard to beat that. Offered Steve a drink in
San Diego and he looked at me like I was Jim Jones! I still owe. Forum +
Convention = Unbeatable.

You could do as others are now doing, start signing my name!
I don't know if I'm posting, or if Geo Thorogood has joined the industry-
I'll have to have him start signing off as GT. So just sign as GT and few
will be the wiser.

I must mention I never considered you judgmental. Egocentric, and I better
stop now- and trust all know we're having fun mixed in with your 99.9%
accuracy on standpipes.

I'll close with a combined plug and thank you-
Had to drag a set of plans for a 5-story Marriott to AFSA years back, for
bid. Needed some help on the standpipes. Who is walking down the hall but
the Forum's resident expert on standpipes. Who's got time to help? SML. And
this is before our stocked suite days, no ulterior motive but to help. Two
days later I'm invited to help critique and improve an AFSA seminar on
-STANDPIPES. So Roland, Russ, Scan, and some others and I are running thru
the slides and some of what tripped me up wasn't clear to the group, either,
so we added some clarifications. Believe me, when I returned home, was
awarded the job (and the 6 story next to it a few months later), I had a
working knowledge of what had been unclear and it all went pretty darn
smooth.

So there's a thanks to Steve when his huge ego needs a boost, and a plug for
why you go to convention. Time to go eat the chicken, pasta, vodka sauce,
and fresh asparagus I just got a call about, and I'm drooling on my
keyboard. And relax, I can see the arms waving now, I'm kidding about the
ego. You ARE that good.

Glc
Really me.

Gotta come correct; when you're as judgmental as I am, it doesn't hurt
to be your own worst critic. Sometimes.

Plus, one of my committee mates called me on it and I want him to know
that I'm accountable.

Steve- I don't think anyone caught that.

This is kinda' embarrassing since I represent AFSA on the NFPA 14 TC.
Section 7.12.3 requires an inlet for every 250 GPM; NFPA 13 doesn't.
Nonetheless, I stand by my comments regarding practical applications and
use
of FDC inlets ...
