Chris,

The commentary in A.6.2.5 ('07 ed.) says that sprinklers with the same temp.
rating SHOULD be used in a given AREA, unless otherwise specified by 8.3.2.

The word 'compartment' is used earlier in this 'blue' print but I would venture
to say that the 18" beam does not separate this space into two compartments
unless the opening is less than 8 ft. (3.3.5). So I would say that you
SHOULDN'T do this based on 13...

But then again, you are looking for the bare minimum and I don't see any "thou
shalt nots" and it might be fair to say that you most likely wouldn't see
skipping due to the arrangement you described?? I dunno...do what you want. :)

Subject: Sprinkler temp

Can you mix ordinary and high temp sprinklers in an ordinary hazard room?
Does it make a difference if there is an 18" beam between them? I see the
SR v QR clearly says no. But I don't see the same clear statement in the
temperature portion.

I'm not suggesting it's a good idea, just what is minimally legal per 13.
It's a big room of ministorage lockers that don't go to the clg. One bay
was added and the SC used ordinary heads. The existing is high temp from
the day it used to be HPS. There is an 18" beam. There are like 100 -
286's and maybe 10 - 165's.
