Craig is correct, in Washington State Washington Administrative Code (WAC)
173-303 "Dangers Waste" allows for a sprinkler density of 0.17 gpm per sq ft
over the most remote 3000 sq ft. These are usually H-4 occupancies.

That's correct, just because it's "H" doesn't automatically mean you need to go
"EX".

One other thing to watch out for with bldgs. with "H" occupancies is the
architects and PM's like to have you provide water spray on the steel so they
can save money by not providing passive protection to achieve the hour
protective rating. If you see that, you've got issues to raise. They will
confuse the criteria in NFPA 15 for a passive protection substitute but nowhere
in NFPA 13 or 15 will you find the practice of spraying certain steel elements
being described as a substitute for passive protection on structural steel that
is required by code.

They aren't calling for UHSD or anything like that, just sprinklers. I
was just curious if anyone had put an OH system into a H occupancy. I
just assume that H = Extra Hazard. Guess not.

Did a high speed Deluge for a Phoenix Missile assembly building in PAX
NAS
8" riser for a 24'x24' building. Explosion wasn't the hazard, as much as
if
the rocket motor (solid propellant) fired off. Pretty much cook the
whole
building if it wasn't cooled. If the warhead exploded, then the system
wouldn't do any good. Just send flowers to the widow.

It's a munitions maintenance facility for missiles. I suppose once the
mushroom cloud clears the type of sprinkler system wouldn't really
matter.
