Thanks everyone for the information. Dewayne -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of ParsleyConsulting Sent: Thursday, June 24, 2010 4:23 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: seismic design category
Dewayne, Yes, the site class is one of the first steps in a process to determine the seismic design category, based on the procedure in ASCE7-05. If you end up in seismic design category A or B, ASCE7-05 has no information on requirement for seismic bracing. If you end up in seismic design category C, ASCE7-05 requires that you provide seismic protection in accordance with the '02 edition of -13. If you end up in seismic design category D-E-F, ASCE7-05 requires that you provide seismic protection in accordance with the '02 edition of -13, and take into account the strength of the mains, and the horizontal force factors as noted in ASCE7-05. You are deemed to have met the latter requirement if you follow the 2007 NFPA-13 guidelines, or the 2010 NFPA-13 guidelines. Clear as mud, right? insert NFPA committee member disclaimer and so forth.... -- PARSLEY CONSULTING Ken Wagoner, SET 760.745.6181 voice 760.745.0537 fax [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> e-mail www.ParsleyConsulting.com <http://www.ParsleyConsulting.com> website Dewayne Martinez wrote: > Is the site class used to determine the design category? > > > -----Original Message----- > From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] > Sent: Thursday, June 24, 2010 4:00 PM > To: [email protected] > Subject: RE: seismic design category > > Design category is your deciding factor.
