This says to use O.H. gr.2 over 3000 sq. ft., go up the curve to 3000 sq. ft. and there you are at .17 gpm. Every where else in the book regarding H type buildings it just says O.H. is required. Why a sprinkler guy would be looking thru the hazmat section for his design requirements I don't know, but it is there. It is also in the newer version of the I.F.C.. Just did one of these buildings that stored slightly caustic water and the architect and I stumbled across this when we were looking for containment volume requirements. Case in point. Specified .20 over 1500, no combustibles or flammables, industrial application. Suitable for the Chemical Plants-Ordinary category out of 13. Reviewer comes back with recommendation of .17 over 3,000. Based on what has been written of most fires being controlled by fewer than 3 heads, what's the perceived advantage of the larger design area in an environment of limited to no combustibles? Building is "H" occupancy due to toxicity hence requiring sprinklers throughout otherwise it would easily and without argument be an F-2. Craig L.
