The first question I would ask, before I even thought about installing ANY
kind of sprinkler head inside of a U/L listed light fixture is what happens
to that u/l listing?
My next thought is --- Well I won't say nuts but really you can't mean that
you want someone to drill a listed light fixture to install a sprinkler head
inside of its lamp shade or shell??? Really????

I could see having 4 equally spaced sprinkler heads located around the
fixture, but inside??? Really???

Obviously there must be more to this than just that, there always is. Like
height of sprinkler pipe to the light fixture? Height of fixture above
floor? Sprinkler density? SSP or SSU or EC sprinklers?? Distance from roof
to Light? Distance from roof to Sprinklers? Type of construction? Concrete,
steel, beam open joist, twin tee?????

It just seems that D. Withee may not be using as much common sense as she is
known for. There has to be a better way. One last question? Is this coming
up at plan review? Or final?? If you missed it at plan review when the
options were less impactful of everyone, you need to exercise your authority
carefully, and it should be tempered with how to make this as painless for
everyone, since you missed it in plan review.

Just one former contractors point of view.

13 8.6.5.2.1.5 is is for obstructions less than or equal to18" below
the deflector (see 13 8.6.5.2.1.1) and refers to pattern development.
8.6.5.1.2 option 2 is a subsection of 8.6.5.1 and refers to the hazard
being shielded from from water reaching it. 13 8.6.5.2.1.5 is about
developing the umbrella and where it will go and what might block it
while 8.6.5.1.2 option 2 is about a horizontal obstruction that
creates a water shadow on the floor.
