There used to be a mindset that concealed sprinklers equaled delayed response
and thereby were not given the same regard as a standard pendant. In some
cases the concealed sprinks were not permitted at all. I haven't looked at
the new FM Data sheet on sprinklers that replaced 2-8N to see if it may make
this recommendation.

Subject: RE: Concealed Sprinklers Limited to Ordinary Hazard Spacing

Have a request in. Have seen this from different A/E firms and was wondering
if insurance underwriters may have issued a bulletin that I have not seen.
This requirement popped up once or twice in the last two months, but six
times in the last week. Always like to understand the rationale behind
requirements that go against everything that has been beaten into my head
over the past 25 years.

Thanks for the response.

If you haven't been able to find it in the Standard (didn't find anything in
there myself), I would ask the engineer of record or whoever produced the
documents to see if this an Underwriter or owner requirement.

Subject: Concealed Sprinklers Limited to Ordinary Hazard Spacing

This may have been covered in the past, but I did not see any mention of it.

Recently we have seen contract specifications requiring that concealed
sprinklers be spaced for ordinary hazard requirements, while allowing
recessed sprinklers to be spaced for light hazard requirements in the same
space. Does anyone know where this requirement may be coming from? Want to
make sure I didn't something.
