I am a bit confused when looking over the rules for ceiling fans and residential sprinklers. NFPA 13 section 8.10.7.2.1.7 allows the blades of the fan to be ignored for Res HSW sprinklers while NFPA 13R section 6.8.1.5.3.3 (A) requires that the Res HSW sprinklers be at least 5ft away from a ceiling fan. Why would this be different for the same type of sprinkler? Is is because 13 requires 0.10 gpm/sqft vs 13R 0.05 gpm/sqft?
