Douglas, NFPA 850 specifically addresses wastewater treatment plants. Each
process location and function is classified separately and the appropriate
protection is specified, ranging from no requirements to hydrants and
protable to automatic fire suppression systems. I don't know enough about
the process you are describing to see how it fits into the protection
requirements of the standard, but may fit into "Breakpoint Chlorination
Tanks and Chlorine Contact Tanks - Application of chlorine in aqueous
solution to wastewater" which requires hydrants for manual suppression (see
Table 5.2, Row 17). Incidentally, by this standard, which may or may not
be adopted through the building or fire code, the plant is supposed to have
a fire risk evaluation and fire prevention program (see 10.3 and 10.4).
