I didn't want to derail the other thread, but I wanted everyone to know
what I found out.

I contacted Hilti via their website to find out what's going on with the
HDI-P, and Matt Roberts got back to me yesterday.

I had asked what the reasons where as to why it was no longer FM approved,
and I told him the two different scenarios we had heard.
He said that both are true, but the loss of the FM approval is a direct
result of the production move.

Apparently, they ended up moving production from Mexico to China. The
Mexican made HDI-Ps, however, are still considered FM approved. I also
confirmed this with FM.
So if your box is stamped 'made in Mexico' you still have an 'approved'
product. They had to remove the FM approval from the data sheet on the
website, and he suggested using an older data sheet if you still have one,
showing the FM approval. Seems kind of shady to me, but I assume Hilti
would back us up if there was an issue with an AHJ about this. (fingers
crossed)

They are currently working to get the Chinese production facility FM
approved, but they do not have a time frame for this, at least not one they
could tell me.

The HDI-P also failed the ICC-ES AC-193 testing, and this is no longer
approved for use in seismic areas. The test is of a number of different
installations and all must not fail to be considered as passing the test.
They can get some of the HDI-Ps to not fail, but not all of them. They are
continuing to work on this, as they want the ICC-ES approval, so hope isn't
all lost I guess. They just don't have any idea of when they will actually
be able to pass the testing.

I told Matt Roberts that I would be posting this here, and he was fine with
that. He also said that if you have any additional questions, you can
contact him.

Also, on a personal note, I would like to give a special thanks to Cecil
Bilbo and Ron Greenman for assisting me off-forums with some older code
research. I am very appreciative of the time spent helping me, and it just
goes to show how great everyone is who participates in this service from
the AFSA, and why I will continue to be an AFSA member and try to get
others to join as well.
