Just another case of NFPA #13 dictating how to build something. It's like NFPA
went from protecting life and property at a reasonable cost to at any cost. I
haven't found a way around it other than fill the space with insulation,
usually not an option unless it's a small area. I have always thought that if I
sent a sprinkler to UL for testing with a water truck from Phoenix and got UL
to list the head with that water, every sprinkler installed in Phoenix would
have to come from me. It would be the only sprinkler available that is Listed
with Phoenix water.

Subject: Existing Comb Conc Space retrofit

Existing 16" open web trusses with fire rated sheetrock ceiling on the bottom -
plywood on the top. Installing uprights in this space is very simple until you
realize that the listed sprinklers required in this space require 1,000 sqft
compartmentalization which would be very difficult and expensive.

Does anyone have any related experience with a similar situation?

Thanks for your help,
