NFPA 2010 is the applicable standard. Drop in ceiling down the corridor on all
four floors of a new construction office building. Non combustible 4' vertical
space above. Ceiling leaves a gap and doesn't connect to the wall on either
side of the corridor. The gap is 1'0 on both sides. Trying to figure out if
sprinklers are required above. I don't see any part of the standard that
clearly addresses this. The closest I can see is the following:

8.15.1.2.1*<http://codesonline.nfpa.org/a/c.ref/ID00001330400/sec> Concealed
spaces of noncombustible and limited-combustible construction with minimal
combustible loading having no access shall not require sprinkler protection.

8.15.1.2.1.1 The space shall be considered a concealed space even with small
openings such as those used as return air for a plenum.

Do you think that this situation would classify as a concealed space? Do you
think this space requires sprinklers above the ceiling? AHJ statement is to do
it per code. Thanks for any input.
