Physics doesn't apply to FDC's. NFPA #13 says the FDC can be used to "pump supplemental water into the sprinkler system".

If a fire pump is running and doing its job there is no reason to pump into the system. 2. As a precaution the IC should have an engine hook up in case of pump failure. 3. Most pumps our rated at 150psi. If you pump into a system you would just be pushing against the check valve and fighting the working pump. I hope this helps Wheeling Fire Inspector Tom Reinhardt 2 Community Boulevard Wheeling, IL 60090 847-499-9067 -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Owen Evans Sent: Wednesday, August 15, 2012 10:58 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Fire Dept. pumping into a system that has an onsite fire pump What is the sequence of events (what happens) when a fire engine pumps into a system that has an onsite fire pump that is already in operation. 1. Does the pump shut down if the fire engine pumps a greater pressure than the pump? How does that happen? Will the pump restart if the fire engine stops pumping? 2. Should there be signage at the FDC notifying fire dept. that a fire pump may be in operation? Owen Evans -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
