Several years ago, a code consultant for a city in CA stated that she
didn't like individual preaction valves or flow switches for elevator
shafts or elevator machine rooms because there was too much of a chance
that the shunt trip could operate unnecessarily during testing or surges.
She liked wet pipe systems and lower temperature heat detectors in shafts
and elevator machine rooms. Since that time I have only used wet pipe
systems and heat detectors connected to the shunt trip. Makes life easier
and you don't even have to directly tie into the fire alarm system.

Hopefully, I am not missing something.

Regards,

Jim

IMHO there is no such thing. I think you'll need a deluge valve or
pre-action. but I will wath the list eagerly and learn from others.

Subject: Listed Solenoid Valve

I have an application where I need a solenoid operated valve to control the
supply to the sprinklers in an elevator hoistway. Anyone know of one
(1-1/2 inch or smaller) that is listed for fire protection service?

Yes, apparently I really need to install sprinklers in the hoistway. It is
of the "no machine room" type but uses combustible belts for lifting the
cars. I am trying to avoid using a listed deluge valve.

Thanks.

Dave
