Ken, Sorry if I touched a nerve or upset you. I am nothing but a designer with a trust issue; I simply do not trust anything in any code or standard until I can explain it to myself like I'm 6 years old.
May I send you a spread sheet I made many years ago? It will allow you to quickly calc the req. sec. mod. based on any pipe type (not just S10 or S40), any span, any length of pipe being hung, no matter 'where in the span' you are. It calculates the amount of steel based on 490 lbs/ft3 and water at 62.4 lbs/ft3. It also calculates the Available Section Modulus for pipe trapeze based on type (i.e. not just s10 or s40). You will see it matches the table perfetctly. If you still say Gibberish I will print this post and eat it :) ps, the spreadsheet is rather ugly and not real user friendly because it takes after me On 6/3/2013 7:51 AM, ParsleyConsulting wrote: > Brad, > Part 1 - Gibberish.
