I may have missed the pun.

But I am serious in my comments.

Bruce,
I get the feeling you are advocating something more than a crude
understanding--- am I right?

I think the real point here is that even at fairly well run refineries and
similar petrochemical facilities fires happen. These commonly result in
horrible deaths for employees. The design of systems is a complicated
business that needs to be taken seriously.

The public expects that part of the ethical responsibility of being a
professional engineer is knowing when a project is beyond the engineers
current level of expertise to take the lead. Find someone with experience
and take the opportunity to learn during this project. Much of the fire
sprinkler work that is discussed on this list is done by tech level
designers. If you do tech level work you have a duty to recognize when you
have crossed from prescriptive tech level design to engineering and seek
responsible engineering supervision for that part of a project or walk away.
