Jeremy,

The 50'-0" pipe rule only applies if the Backflow Preventer has butterfly 
valves attached.  If you are using OS&Y valves, then 4.27.3 applies regarding 
the 10 pipe diameters.

BFp to be installed 50' from the fire pump suction flange (as measured along 
the route of the pipe).  Is this a typo?  What it the reasoning for having such 
a long run of pipe without valves?  In a small fire pump room with a bfp, It 
would seem you would have to do a bunch of zig zags with the pipe just to meet 
this requirement.
