Suppose it depends on what your contract stipulated. I always have a clause
that says something to the affect, "Owner must provide, at no cost to Fire
by Knight, LLC, AutoCAD drawings, on a CD Disk or via email or other
acceptable means, containing all drawings in "DWG" format as required for a
fully functional design of the Fire Sprinkler System for this project". In
addition to this a change order clause is included. Without this info your
probably up against the niceness of the GC, and they don't sound like they
want to play nice. Personally, I can never figure out why the GC,
architect, or other refuse to supply this basic and important piece of the
project. It seems to always lead to problems when someone else has to
recreate others work.

Subject: Redrawing Cadd Backgrounds

Just taking a little poll: If after you've been awarded a job the GC will
not provide you with cadd backgrounds what would you do? In this particular
case we are working on a large grocery store with (2) adjacent shops, we
have offered to redraw the backgrounds for a reasonable fee and the guys
thinks we're nuts....
