I guess I should have asked like this:

"In a new 13R Hotel, the nonmetallic sprinkler piping better be orange,
right?"

Right ... for CPVC. Heads up everyone on the new terminology. The
13's all amended for 2013 to use the term "nonmetallic" instead of
"plastic" for universal references. There are distinctions between PEX
and CPVC in the material standards and they are referred to individually
as applicable. But if you're going to be picky about word-smithing, the
answer to David's question is no because PEX listed for fire protection is
milky white.

As far as I know that's true for CVPC. There are other colors of CPVC for
plumbing applications, and Lubrizol has a "gold" yellow color CPVC that is
compatible with orange CPVC for the plumbing only portions of combination
systems, but all CPVC listed for fire is orange. Grinnell used to make
pipe that was red or or very reddish-orange if you will, but that's been
gone for a long time. Last I know is all brands of fire listed CPVC are
made from pellets solely supplied by Lubrizol.
