It sounds like you are in a situation where you need to have a booster pump arrangement for the municipal supply, in this case feeding just this property. I have seen this done in remote areas of usually small towns for this very reason. In those cases, however, it was a municipally owned pump system. They would have a low-flow pump to supply domestic water at the required pressure; then a high-flow 'fire service' pump that would kick on upon large volume demand. This second pump (or pumps) usually served sprinkler systems and area hydrants.
I think this can be done but, given that this appears to all be private, I am unclear on the need for listed fire pumps versus standard domestic service pumps. I.e. when is a fire pump a fire pump as opposed to just part of the 'domestic water supply?' Mark A. I am working on a project where the facility has a private water tank that they want to abandon and connect to the city supply. However, the public supply falls short of the required pressure. The private tank is supplied by connection to the public. The easiest solution would be to build a pump house near where the old tank is and connect to the existing tank feed and yard system (both 8"). However, the system feeds both fire and domestic supplies. Has anybody done one of these successfully? Any thoughts? The location is a hospital and there are 5 fire lead-ins to the building and an unknown number of domestic connections. (Note: the facility isn't that large and the whole thing could have been done with one lead-in and 2 or 3 zones.) _______________________________________________ Sprinklerforum mailing list [email protected] http://lists.firesprinkler.org/listinfo.cgi/sprinklerforum-firesprinkler.org ______________________________________________________________________ This email has been scanned by the Symantec Email Security.cloud service.
