My questions would be:

1) Is this system installed in place of sprinklers, if so, then YES to reserve
cylinders.

2) If a fire develops, how much ordinary combustibles are present? Will the
fire be not only controlled, but extinguished within 3 to 5 mins of agent
release, or is a more deep seated fire likely?

3) How long will it take to get manual hose lines in place and operating, once
the initial discharge and alarm occurs?

4) What is the value of the contents being protected, and is it ok to switch to
water after agent discharge, or would another round of agent be better?

5) How long would it take the customer to rebuild/replace the room and
equipment?

5) What does the customer want?

6) What does the customer's insurance company want/recommend?

Sincerely,
Andrew Steele

Dear Brad,my issue the design of CO2 and FM200 is done to suppress the fire
with specific number of cylinder based on concentration and volume of the
space...etc as per NFPA 12, and the para shown earlier it states that if the
authority having jurisdiction  determines the necessity to maintain a reserve
cylinder/ supply...etc my Q what are the factors which determine the necessity
of having the reserve or whether the system should have a reserve or not?
since our consultant is defining him self as Authority Having Jurisdiction, and
he ask to provide a reserve cylinder but he is not clarifying why we should
have reserve or not....since it will be an extra cost without a valid point of
view, because our project is at the middle of the city and only the fire watch
will access or deal with the CO2 System monitor.

 Hello,

Off the top of my head, if it were a wet system there would be a minimum water
supply duration, like .5 hour, 1 hour, 2 hour, etc. If the water supply was
from a water storage tank the tank would have to meet the demand times the
duration, AND be re-filled with-in 8 hours.

Is this the type of thing you are questioning Eng Belal?

Usually with co2 or fm200 it is one quick shot at extinguishment so the worry
is "what if it flares back up but you are out of gas?". It is why you sometimes
see these system (to act quickly) + a water system too in the same area.

thanks,

Brad

Gentlemen,as per NFPA 12, 4.6.1.2 Where the authority having jurisdiction
determinesthat continuous protection is required, the quantity of reservesupply
shall be as many multiples of the quantities required in4.6.1 and 4.6.1.1 as
the authority having jurisdiction considersnecessary. what
are the factor which determines that the continuity as must, since AHJ
sometime they have some unprofessional reason to affect the contractor?is there
another statement or code determine this?
knowing that my current project is at the middle of the city with less than
20km from the CO2, FM200 cylinder supplier.
