Hey Mark, An engineer must take responsibility for conducting periodic reviews of the system install (followed by inspection reports) and produce a final sign-off letter.
This engineer doesn't have to be the same engineer responsible for the system design, though in most cases it will be. Worked for a sprinkler contractor in Michigan for 7 years before working in Canada. Outside of the 'zed's' and the 'zee's' and the 'eh's' and well....not the 'eh's', things in the suppression side of the coin were pretty similar. And as Larry said, different alarm and electrical standards/codes but if you can figure out one.... We use the National Building Code of Canada, which is a model code that each province adopts, though with modifications. For sprinkler design, the NBC refers to NFPA standards (13, 13R, 13D, 30, etc.) but it also introduces certain requirements that are different than those of NFPA. David Bitton, ing.
