Obviously, none of us can speak for how all states with engineering licensure
would handle this, but I think most states have a board or department that is
responsible for the certification, registration and discipline of professional
engineers. Here in CA, the state Consumer Affairs Dept. has a Board for
Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists. They maintain all the
rules and reg's, including a Code of Conduct. It's in this departments
policies that the extent of work is defined for engineers by discipline. Here
in CA, I believe that a set of sprinkler plans can be done by or under the
direct supervision of an FPE, ME or CE.

It definitely matters what state is involved. Every state has their own rules
(some have almost no rules in this regard). I'll let the New York experts
respond for that state.

Subject: who can seal fire sprinkler drawings

Good morning all,

We're working on a project and the client is asking where it states a
Registered Architect or AIA can sign fire sprinkler drawings over a
Professional Engineer? The work is in New York State, if it helps??

I'm trying to locate the line where it's allowed...

Thanks
Steven
