Tanks popping out of the ground. At the end of the ‘80’s into the early ‘90’s I
was involved with inspection or plan review of two or three UST’s for gasoline
or diesel a week. Yes, I’ve see an empty tank that after concrete pad is
removed has floated up through pea gravel or sand overnight. It’s kind of
creepy to see happening.

Anchoring tanks is standard practice. A couple concrete logs and straps over
the top. The UST people know how to do it with all the fancy non-corrosive
hardware.

This tank will normally be full though. I’ve never seen septic tanks float up.

Standard advice for gas stations before anchoring was to fill tank, with water
if necessary before inundation. Not making that up.

And poly septic tanks are fairly commonly used in dry country with a low flow
well for domestic. Have a one-gpm well. Float in the tank and float in the
well. Well pump discharges only to tank and maintenance outlet at pump house.
Second larger pump supplies water to home. It’s cut out is a few inches off the
bottom.

1,000, 1,500 gallon tanks are commonly available.

Best.
