And we used to screw 6” all day long. I’m not anti-progress but I
don’t think using a flammable, wax-coated paper shell is a giant
step backward. Though I’m sure there are a hundred lawyers out
there that would disagree.

True
We used to use fast food french fry paper bags and Teflon tape to
hold them on but then again USED to hang 6” sch.40 pipe off 10’
ladders with no tie off.
Definitely different times . Hopefully along the way we started
working smarter and not harder

Maybe I’m getting to that age where I start a lot of sentences with,
“Back in the day …”. Or maybe everyone’s gotten so upside-down
with engineered solutions and mitigating liability that we can’t
just resort to the hacks that we devised before there was a
Coverdome solution. But back in the day, we used 3 oz. Dixie cups.

The system should be treated as live and everyone made responible

Can be removed and reattached from the ground with a tool.

That's a great idea when used during drywall mud or painting. But if
they're sanding, especially with extension sticks, there's the risk
of hitting a head. Thank you for the info.

I'm sure there are going to be those that disagree, but I have seen
paper "sandwich" bags put over the head and secured with paper tape.
The theory being that the bag would burn away in the event of a fire.
I have seen this used in paint spray booths and other areas subject
to overspray, with AHJ approval of course.

The answer is no. The sprinklers are sensitive by their design.
Anything added to them will affect their performance.
Why do you ask?
