I have another question. I know it is a lot with all these Larry’s running
around.

When I started my thread, I mentioned that we have had no corrosion on the
cap/orifice area. Turns out that on the head replacement job we are just
finishing up (and unlike the last job we did next door in the same riser
system), some of these demo’d heads do have considerable corrosion on the cap
and orifice area. Maybe 2-3%. Is that caused by leakage or is more insidious?
Thanks.

20 years testing isn't due to the glass bulb it's due to the heads being quick
response. You can get standard response heads with bulbs that will last another
fifty years.

Check this head out:

This is an SR bulb head that has it's 1/2" version listed to 250 psi instead of
the standard 175. I see that as a nice value added feature for no extra cost,
but that's just me.

In making an informed decision on our next step, we are considering the head
change out and pilot PRVs.

Questions:
1. If we install PRVs, don't need high pressure heads (and probably visa
versa), right?
2. Are all high pressure heads the glass bulb type and do bulb type heads
require testing every 5 yrs starting with year 20?
3. Are all PRVs flange mounted?

Thanks

Same sprinklers as the 175psi, but tested at higher pressure.
I can only speak for Globe, but I believe other manufacturers are the same.

On a different thread Ben Young made a comment about using higher pressure
sprinklers. Does anyone know if these sprinklers are actually different from
the standard 175psi sprinklers or do they the same sprinklers that have just
met a more demanding UL/FM testing protocol?
