OK, great, then r4387 rolls up everything covered in this thread and works
on Windows: please give it a try on Linux.

The only virtual environment I've worked with is virtualenv - download and
docs at http://pypi.python.org/pypi/virtualenv
Read over the docs, I think you'll find it's pretty straightforward.
