Here's what I learned this morning, when my 6:00 AM alarm triggered a
new "Random songs", replacing the "Random songs" that had been playing
through the night.

The overnight rescan created a small addition to the library. It was one
compilation album that contained four genres. The alarm-triggered
"Random songs" only played this one new addition to the library. Upon
investigation, I found that in My Music>Random mix, only the genres
contained in the compilation were checked.

Scrolling to the bottom of the genre list and clicking "Select All",
then selecting "Select None", then starting a new "Random songs"
playlist fixes the problem. This, to me confirms that having no genres
checked allows "Random Mix" to use all genres. The null set is not the
same as checking a blank check box or the "No genre" check box.

I can use this information to manually correct the problem after each
instance of new music being added to the library during a rescan. It
would be better to find a way for brand new genres (yes, there are now
3,983 genres) not to be automatically checked on the list. That would
eliminate the issue entirely.

Is there a setting that I'm not finding that I can change so that new
genres aren't checked on the "Random Mix" list?
