Edit2; I have found it: I have made use in the past of the sort fileds mentioned (for my Apple Ipod that would not sort the way I like...). My compilations had these sort fields for albumartistsort and artistsort often filled with the "Various Artitst". If an artist now occurs also on a compilation, it seems to me the fields for are combined, and namesort gets the various artists inserted. I noticed this because when drilling down into the wrongly sorted albumartists, compilations albums appeared...
